Closing the Bones with rebozo
Closing the Bones, also known as Cerrada or Cerrada de Caderas, is a traditional postpartum ritual that originates in Mexico and has long been practiced by traditional midwives (parteras) as a way to care for women after birth. Using the rebozo — a long woven shawl that is part of Mexican cultural heritage — the ritual gently wraps and rocks the body, symbolically and physically supporting the mother as she transitions out of pregnancy and birth.
In many traditional cultures, this ritual was offered during the postpartum period to help the mother feel held, nourished, and supported as her body and spirit integrated the experience of birth. The practice is both deeply physical and symbolic: the gentle wrapping of the body represents a closing of the birthing journey and a moment of care for the mother, who is so often the one holding everyone else.

The ceremony usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours and can include warming practices, rest, herbal tea, and the rebozo closing ritual itself. It is often a quiet and intimate experience designed to offer the mother time to slow down, be cared for, and honor the transformation she has gone through.
The Closing the Bones with Rebozo ceremony costs 285 euros, and is hosted at Fern's workplace, in Rotterdam. This ceremony can often be booked on shorter notice and is the only ceremony I host in my own space, creating a calm and supportive environment for the mother.
This ritual is a gentle reminder that the mother also deserves to be held, witnessed, and cared for after the immense work of bringing life into the world.
Disclaimer
I work as an independent celebrant and ceremony facilitator, and my work is not tied to any specific religion or spiritual tradition. My training was completed through the School of Celebrancy, run by the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD), an organization dedicated to honoring nature-based traditions and the art of meaningful ceremony.
While this background informs my approach, each ceremony is created with complete openness and respect for the people it is meant for. The language, symbols, and rituals can be adapted to reflect your personal beliefs, cultural background, and the intentions you wish to bring into the moment.
My role is simply to help hold a meaningful space where your story, your connection, and your celebration can unfold with authenticity, care, and presence.
